Japanese Bobtail - The Japanese Bobtail is a naturally occurring mutation breed that has been accepted in CFA since 1976 and the longhaired version was later accepted in 1993. We primarily work with the longhairs, but occasionally have shorthaired kittens available. The Japanese Bobtail is a medium sized cat, females weighing from 5-8 pounds and males from 7-10 pounds. They have long legs and bodies, and have extremely silky hair with no undercoat that requires very little maintenance. Longhairs can be bathed monthly but do not require blow drying, and should be combed with a metal toothed comb every week, and shorthairs can be bathed every other month, with weekly brushing with a rubber brush, and both coat lengths should have their nails trimmed every two weeks. They are extremely intelligent, affectionate, agile, and active, and very rarely "grow old" in personality.
I train most of the Japanese Bobtails I keep for Feline Agility and some can complete the course with 100% accuracy in as little as 10 seconds. The Japanese Bobtail is an excellent cat for kids because of their seemingly endless source of energy, but will fit well into most other situations as well. Japanese Bobtail breeders can still import cats in from Japan, which makes the breed very healthy and with no known hereditary issues and also having a substantial life span.
The average pet price range of a Japanese Bobtail is from $850-1500. We occasionally have young retired adults available, and their price range is from $300-500. Some of the colors of Japanese Bobtails that we work with a black and white, red and white, mi-ke, brown tabby & white, and patterned mi-ke, and occasionally blue and white, cream and white, dilute mi-ke, smoke & whites and silver tabby & whites.
